Edmund works his thoughts around a proposal. He chews it, shapes it, refines it with the teeth of his mind. Then he spits it out:<\/p>\n
\u201cYou could get free,\u201d he tells the wolf, \u201cand then not<\/em> eat the world.\u201d<\/p>\n It looks at him.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd what would you have me do, then?\u201d it asks.<\/p>\n \u201cWe could be business partners!\u201d<\/p>\n Edmund seizes the paw of the wolf in his two arms\u2019 spread. He hugs it and does not mind the swords that are its claws.<\/p>\n \u201cI could be the money and you could be the . . . wolf!
