\u201cI don\u2019t sharpen elves,\u201d says Hans.<\/p>\n
\u201cDon\u2019t whisk me, neither.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hans smiles thinly.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am old,\u201d says Hans. \u201cI am at the limit of my strength.\u201d<\/p>\n
Joffun snorts a laugh. He makes a gesture as if to brush away bad fortune. After a moment he realizes that Hans isn\u2019t joking. He smiles, gleefully, like it\u2019s his birthday; then he pales, like he\u2019s just seen a crack in one of the pillars that holds up the cavern\u2019s sky.<\/p>\n
\u201cUm,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n
