Long ago, in the winter before the world, a goat began to sharpen itself.<\/p>\n
What a bad goat!<\/p>\n
It grew sharper and sharper. It began to trouble the great smiths of the svart-alfar. Karl the smith went to subdue the goat, but it was too sharp for him. It cut the rope Karl used to bind it. It ripped the nets. Its fur made Karl\u2019s hands bleed and one horn made Karl\u2019s gut bleed and it left him dying on the snow.<\/p>\n
Hans came.<\/p>\n
Hans the smith knelt by Karl. Hans fed Karl the svart-drink, but it did him no great good.<\/p>\n
\u201cDon\u2019t worry,\u201d says Hans. \u201cI\u2019ll kill it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Karl shook his head.<\/p>\n
Hans frowned at him. \u201cI shouldn\u2019t?\u201d he said. \u201cWhy not?\u201d<\/p>\n
But Karl died.<\/p>\n
